How it all started

My first encounter with artisan keycap is in early January 2017. At that time, I don’t have enough money to buy an artisan. The first artisan I have is HKP Trooper, given by my friends for my birthday present. I was fascinated by how cool is the idea of the artisan on a mechanical keyboard.

It gives a personal touch to my keyboard, Ducky Zero, back then. I really want to buy more artisan but artisan keycaps are not friendly with my wallet as a computer science student.

One day in mid-January 2017, I was wondering about how to make my own artisan. I found some threads on Geekhack and tutorials on Youtube. I bought all the basic materials needed and try to make my own. After dozens of failures, I finally make my first “proper” artisan keycap called Alpha Ape.

ONE SCULPT THAT COMPLETELY CHANGE IT ALL

I can’t deny the fact that this owl-based sculpt is changing the face of Alpha Keycaps. Keypora gained huge popularity among the artisan keycap community. The styling and the proportion of the sculpt are well received by the community.

Up until now, it is one of the sculpt in the artisan keycap world that has the most colorways for one single sculpt with many collectors seriously collecting this sculpt in their stash.

FAKE ARTISAN KEYCAP

With the huge popularity, it always comes with a problem, counterfeit keycap.

At the end of 2019, fake Keypora started to pop up on the internet. Some people are tried to trade and sell their fake Keypora in the community.

This brings a need for Alpha Keycaps to make a change. Since October 2019, every Alpha Keycaps keycaps will have a custom butt and an authentication card. Alpha Keycaps also provide a legit check service on Alpha Keycaps Discord Server so everyone can be more comfortable with their purchases or trades.

All this counterfeiting problem will never end, and Alpha Keycaps commitment to combat counterfeiting also will never end. I encourage all the members to be aware of this serious issue.
